What is cupping therapy and how does it help?

Vacuum cups or cupping therapy is a technique that uses small cups as suction devices placed directly on the skin. The suction and vacuum created by the cups relaxes muscles, stimulates blood and energy flow, and calms the nervous system. Circulation is restored in areas where it has stagnated, speeding up the body’s natural self-healing processes.

Cupping is used to relieve pain in the back, neck, tense muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, and even cellulite. The process is the opposite of massage – while massage applies pressure to muscles, cupping pulls the muscle upwards into the cup. Most people find this a deeply relaxing and relieving sensation. Cups are typically left on the skin for 10 to 15 minutes.

When the cups are applied, a vacuum is created that causes blood and lymph vessels to dilate. This stimulates circulation and helps improve metabolism and relieve pain. Nerve endings are less compressed and rub less against surrounding tissues. As a result, cupping massage works through multiple layers of tissue and produces remarkable results in recovery.

Respiratory issues: Cupping is an excellent aid during colds or asthma attacks. It helps relieve coughing by lifting lung energy, aiding the body in removing moisture and mucus, and making it easier to expectorate. The body recovers more quickly when circulation is free and natural healing can begin.

Detoxifying effect: When performed by an experienced therapist, cupping helps remove toxins and improves blood circulation in veins and arteries. Positive effects on the skin and circulatory system can be noticed after just a few treatments.

Muscle cramp relief: Cupping is especially useful for athletes suffering from muscle cramps due to overuse. The effect is often immediate, as increased circulation reduces muscle tension and stimulates the lymphatic system.

Digestive system: Cupping also positively affects digestion. It improves metabolism, relieves constipation, regulates digestion, and stimulates a healthy appetite.
